Role Description:

Plan, organise and oversee the delivery of the coaching programme


  • Have an appropriate level of technical knowledge, minimum ASA Level 2 Coach,
  • preferably Level 3
  • Well organised and able to delegate
  • Enthusiastic and a good motivator
  • Approachable
  • Confident and effective communicator

Main Duties

  • Produce a cyclical Annual Plan for each squad level in line with LTAD principles
  • Coach at least 10 hours per week personally
  • Oversee the delivery of the poolside programme by assistant coaches
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the club as required
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks
  • Agree competition programme, in line with Annual plan, in conjunction with chair person and gala secretary
  • Attend Open Meets and Galas
  • Organise coach cover for all club training sessions
  • Supervise and assist with the professional development of assistant coaches
  • Allocate available water time to the squads
  • Allocate swimmers to squads and ensure that training schedules are prepared for all squads in line with LTAD principles
  • Maintain swimmer registers
  • Maintain records of swimmers to assess their progress
  • Write a report for the Club newsletter each month
  • Attend committee meetings when requested
  • Produce an Annual Powerpoint review of the Year for the AGM
  • Liaise regularly with parents through organised parents meetings
  • Maintain discipline by applying the Club’s code of conduct
  • Make team selections
  • Obtain ASA and pool rescue qualifications and keep them regularly updated
  • Keep IOS membership & Coach License up to date
  • Attend professional development courses as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain links with other local swimming clubs and schools
  • Be aware of and understand the facility Emergency Action Plan and Normal Operating Procedures for each facility used
  • Follow and promote the ASA Child Protection policy


Approximately 30 hours per week inclusive of preparation work, coaching, gala attendance and meetings as required
