Congratualtions to Ella Thornburg who was selected to represent Sussex in the National County Teams Championships at Pond’s Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield on Sunday!

The team travelled up on the Saturday, with a stop over at Loughborough University Pool for a training session during which they got to meet Jocelyn Ulyett who is the current 200m Breaststroke British Record Holder.

Sunday was race day, with two competitions running concurrently. The 50m pool was divided into two 25m pools, with Division 1 teams competing one end and division 2 the other. Sussex are in Division 2.

Ella was first up in the 12-13yr girls Medley Relay. She swam the butterfly leg in 30.09, with a great relay takeover. This was a second faster than her LC PB, 1.5s faster than her SC PB and helped Sussex into 4th place for that event.

Ella then had the 100 fly. Another good race, almost 2 seconds faster than her SC PB, but not quite beating her LC time. Ella finished 9th out of 17.

Well done Ella on a great performance!

Sadly Sussex missed out on promotion by just 1 point in the end! You can read the full report here.
