March 2017 Report from Head Coach Sue Cameron
As expected, February has been a very busy month, the Sussex Counties being the main event. We have had our busiest ever Novice Gala too, with 52 swimmers entered!
We had a successful Disability Taster Session run by the South East Regional ASA Disability Officer Dave White, which led to us welcoming Sean O’Sullivan in Scott Squad and another young lad joining a club nearer his home. Fourteen year old Sean, like Georgie, has achondroplasia.
Our junior swimmers are all making good progress with their diving skills and a number have now passed their ASA Preliminary Competitive Start Awards. Congratulations to Georgia Bridle, Isabel Charnock, Izzy Geal, Amelie Gilford, Marcus Harvey, Katie Hill, Erin Humphries, Sam MacCullum, Peter Marshall, Marissa Netherwood, Olly Randall, Libby Slade, Lottie Wilkinson and Aaron Woods. I still have a few outstanding assessments to do for those who were absent. I will then be arranging for swimmers in Guy and Tutton Squads to undertake their Full Start Awards at Arun Leisure Centre. This will be on a Wednesday (by temporarily swapping site with Peaty & Carlin) and is likely to be in May or June.
It was great to hear that Club member and iSwim teacher Alice Mantle, who now plays water polo for Worthing SC, was in the Bronze winning South East Regional U18 girls team at the Inter-Regional competition at the end of February. Well done Alice!
Thank you, as always, to all of our volunteer coaches and lane helpers. I am delighted that several of our committed regular helpers will be doing the new ASA Assistant Coach course, previously the Level 1 qualification. This takes place in September/October and is partly online, with one weekend face-to-face at the Arena. If you would like to join our team please come and chat with me.
