Joe Greaves, Georgie Howell and Ella Thornburg all travelled to Sheffield for the Swim England Summer National Meet held at Pond’s Forge International Pool over 5 days.

It was a long hard week, with warm up for the morning heats starting at 7.30am, then back at 3pm for the finals session warm up every day. Georgie swam in 13 races, making the final in every event! Joe made finals in each of his 4 events too!

Both Joe and Georgie are multi-classification swimmers. Joe in the S14 class and Georgie in the S7 class. Multi-class swimmers race against each other regardless of age. They are awarded British Disability Points (BDP) based on how close they are to the British record for their class in each event. The winners is the highest BDP scorer.

Day 1 saw both Joe and Georgie in action. Georgie came 9th in the 100 free final and 7th in the 100 breast final. Joe swam a 4.5 second PB in his 100 breast heat and then knocked another 0.7s off in the final to finish 6th. Meanwhile Ella had her own 1:1 training session in the afternoon, preparing for her national debut in the morning.

A busy Day 2 of the Swim England National Summer meet saw Ella make her debut with a great race, improving her 100 fly seeding by 4 places, finishing 16th. Fab swim Ella! Georgie and Joe both made the 200 IM final, both improving on their heat times, Joe by a massive 8 seconds! Georgie came 5th and Joe 7th. Having started at 7.30am, Georgie finished the day with the 50 free final just after 7pm, finishing in 7th place. One long day!

Day 3 and Georgie was up again in the 400 free – heat and final! She finished 8th in the final, 2 seconds faster than her heat. Georgie also won a free Swim England 150th anniversary swim hat for racing in lane 9! Well done Georgie!

Woohoo! Bronze medal for Joe in the 200 free on Day 4 of the Swim England Summer Nationals! An exciting and well swum race resulting in a 3 second PB and one very happy swimmer. Congratulations Joe!

The final day of the Swim England Summer Nationals saw Georgie finish 6th in the 100 back final and Joe finish 7th with another 2 sec PB in his 100 back final, on top of the 3 sec PB he swam this morning! Georgie swam a great race in the 50 fly – all on her own as she was the only entrant! She had to beat the British record for a medal, which we knew was not possible, but just to get up and swim on your own in front of a packed Ponds Forge was simply amazing!

So a massive congratulations to our fab three – Joe, Georgie and Ella. Everyone is hugely proud of you all!
